Sally McKenney has a baking addiction. Many of us can relate. There is something soothing about getting lost in the art of baking; a passion that led McKenney to leave her job in finance and pursue food blogging full-time. Based in Philadelphia, bookmark this food blog for inventive twists and useful tips.
Describe your cooking style in three words: Simple. Fun. Innovative.
What’s your signature dish? Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies.
What do you think is the most underrated ingredient? Almond extract. Just a scant 1/4 teaspoon of this delicious stuff goes a long way and it gives cookies, cakes, pastries, that little something extra. I love a touch of it in my cream cheese frosting recipe.
What’s the best cooking advice you’ve ever received? This applies more to baking than cooking, but I’ve learned how important precision is: weighing your ingredients is the most accurate way to get the best, even results every time. My food scale is the most used tool in my kitchen.
If you could share a meal with anyone in history who would it be? Could this be my grandmother? Though she is not famous, she is certainly my role model. Hard working and passionate, she always found a reason to smile and laugh. She brought so much warmth to the kitchen and the food she prepared. I started my blog the year she passed; she is my absolute inspiration and I wish I could show her what I’ve accomplished in life sharing her love of cooking and baking.
